Abstract

This study aims to analyse the needs and attitudes of IIUM students towards learning Arabic idioms through edutainment. This study is descriptive in nature using a survey method that was distributed to non-native speakers and learners of Arabic at the International Islamic University in Malaysia. The study used a sample of 100 students. The findings show that there is a need for the development and construction of applications that apply a variety of language activities that can stimulate students to practice Arabic idiomatic expressions both verbally and in writing. Therefore, it can be used as a guide in preparing and developing educational programmes based on edutainment approach as well as being complementary to other learning aids at all levels of education. It is also a learning strategy to understand Arabic idioms. This study suggests that continuous effort at other levels of educational institutions in the construction of all forms of applications through mobile phones based on fun learning be done to identify students' level of mastery in Arabic idioms. Thus, all related parties are recommended to train their teaching staff from the correct aspects of pedagogy and effective strategies in this respect.
